In The Beginning (Just Kidding)

Today is January 1, the first day of 2012, and the first day of my “Musings From The Heart” essay project. I would like to wish all readers today and for the rest of the year, a happy and “heart-lived” new year.

Hello, whoever you are on the other end of this screen and maybe other end of the world.  How are you? I am very well thank you. Perhaps you will join me here each day, or maybe once in a while, and check into my and your “heart”. No matter how different you may be from me, in “heart” we are all one, and we are all the same. We all feel, we all express with heart, we all experience with heart. We all feel the same things. So what a nice feeling I have now that I may be feeling here with you. Welcome!

Now, I did not say that we will agree or feel the same about what I say.  But I did say that we will all feel, and we will express, and we will experience, and so I ask you to let me simply be your muse. A muse is simply someone that moves you, someone who inspires you to feel, to express, and to experience. We are in fact all muses, and I will be here each and every day for a year to inspire you to feel something.  “Hmm, I never thought of it that way”, or “Wow, that makes me feel so inspired!”, or even and especially “Hey, I think you are full of bleep, bleep, bleep!”. All heart expressions and experiences are welcome, they are our musings from the heart.

So, I first want to explain to my fellow feeling mus-ers and mus-ees out there in human-land all over the planet, my particular experience of “heart”, and the expression and living of “heart” as relates to this year of essays. So here we go…..!

Heart is of course the organ in our chest that pumps our blood, and heart is the metaphor for feelings, and most wonderfully, for love, the core of all things. But “heart” is more than an organ or metaphor, heart is our primordial evolutionary core of consciousness, and I will elaborate on this in just a bit. The scientific data and studies are well under way to document and prove to our brains what our hearts “felt” many millennia before our first conscious thoughts. My desire here is not to work to prove anything anatomical or scientific to you, for you may turn to science to learn of the miracles of the heart that are just beginning to be discovered and published. My desire is to share my “feelings” with you, and to invite you to feel with me, and with no investment on my part in the outcome of your feelings. My desire is that we feel together, and that we link this to our “hearts”.  If you like the idea that the heart I speak of is in your chest pumping blood, that is very nice, but if you would prefer that “heart” be a synaptic experience in your brain, that is just as good. If you like to think that “heart” is your actual core of existence, that is wonderful. What is important is that we differentiate between feeling and thinking, and since thinking is believed to be a synaptic brain function, I use heart to differentiate from a mere synaptic response.

So to elaborate on “primordial evolutionary core of consciousness”, I would like to go way back. In the beginning..., (I’m kidding, I always wanted to write that.)

For me “heart” goes all the way back to the concepts of nature and nurture. Nature is our genetic code and the primordial instincts “encoded” by creation, or evolution, or both, and nurture is how our environment and experiences affect this nature. Our lives are of course a wonderful dance back and forth between the two. I speak of heart as nature, and our heart experience precedes any nurture.  The moment the sperm enters the egg we are as close to enlightenment as we will ever become, short of the moment of our death when we return through this same portal. At the moment of fertilization our “heart” potentiality is complete, whole, and on its way down the spiral of “fall” towards the effects of nurture.

Our purest form of heart is the beginning and the end, the entry and exit into life, our conception and de-conception. At fertilization we are heart embodied, one cell at a time, and we have heart and feel heart and are heart, and through our hearts we feel and express and experience all emotions. And this heart experience of emotional expression and experience precedes thought by millions of years evolutionarily, and it precedes thought by many months once we are fertilized. Once our brains are functiona,l our heart precedes our emotions, and our emotions precede our thoughts biologically, we only think after we feel, thinking being a response to emotion.

As we progress in the womb our nature builds us into conscious, sentient beings, and our nurture affects our perfection.  We are either loved and welcomed and cared for ideally, or we are not, but our “heart” precedes all this, for we know and retain on a cellular level exactly when and where our ideal potentiality was honored, and where it was affected in a detrimental way. Our “heart” is our primordial compass, our prehistoric GPS, and long before birth and life, long before thoughts and conscious experience, we know by “heart” whether all is well, or whether we are falling down or falling short. Our heart is our original core identity and experience, and we bring with us into this world everything contained in the universe.

This means that though unique like a snowflake, with no two alike in history, we also are and can see and feel and know every other snowflake. Our unique and omniscient and omnipresent hearts are us, and we are all. All we have to do is value and remember the power and beauty of our hearts, but of course “all we have to do” is a lifelong endeavor.

I am living a unique life of wishing and striving to remember my heart, to remember who I am and who you are. I desire to muse you and be mused by you. So our year of 365 essays together here, if you care to honor me, or be curious enough to read again, will be about Musings Of The Heart. Whether they be knowings or feelings of heart pure enough to precede my nurture, or my own nature/nurture expressed here, is for you and your heart to experience yourself. Whether you become inspired and agree or become enflamed and disagree, it is clear that you knew the answer long before you thought about it and reacted, and I welcome you to share it with me. We are therefore brothers and sisters on the same page and on the same planet.

And how nice it will be for us to feel each other and remember each other again.

See you tomorrow.
